Kenneth A Slater

Kenneth A. Slater, 60, of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 2:06 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Ken was born April 20, 1963 in Spring Valley, Illinois, the son of Gerald and Wilma (Thone) Slater. He graduated from Sterling High School. 

He married Jill Beckstrom on September 11, 1982 in East Moline, Illinois and they later divorced. He married Tom Jennings on September 17, 2011 in Burlington, Iowa and he survives. 

Those left to cherish his memory are; husband, Tom Jennings; children, Ryan Slater of Slater, Iowa, Ashley (Jeremy) Jorgensen of Coal Valley, Illinois; grandchildren, Lance and Avery Jorgensen of Coal Valley, Cam and Annah Mozingo of Slater, siblings, Jason (Jen) Slater of Cordova, Illinois, Kelli (Joe) Larkin of Rock Falls, Illinois, Jeremy (Lienda) Slater of Bartlett, Tennessee, Brian (Lanette) Jennings of Avon, Laura Jennings of Avon, Brenna and Briar Jennings of Avon, Jake Slater of Rock Falls.

Ken worked in sales and food service. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a lover of all animals, especially horses. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Slater; father-in-law, Gary Jennings; grandparents; nephews Jimmy Hollaway and Jameson Miller.

Cremation rites have been accorded with no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to McDonough District Hospital Hospice and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home-Avon, is handling the arrangements.
