William "Whiteshoes" Johnson, 89 of Roseville, IL passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, 5:30 pm. Bill was born in Monmouth, Illinois to Grace and Ralph Johnson on Wednesday September 1, 1926 . He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1944, where he was a member of both the Football and Track Hall of Fames.
On September 26, 1947, Bill married Carol Conlon. They moved to the family farm in Point Pleasant Township, southwest of Roseville, where he began farming and remained until 1965. Many life-long friendships were forged in that farming community: the Strickler's, the Murphy's, the Mayhew's, the Pinney's, the Monroe's, and the Bride's, to name a few. In 1964, he began working for Stockland FS and moved his family into town. He remained with FS until his retirement.
Bill loved his vegetable and flower gardens, the Chicago Cubs, dancing with his wife (especially to the band Satin and Suede), reading, and always enjoyed a good practical joke. He loved gospel music and never missed "going to church" on Saturday night.
Survivors include his children: Bill (Wanda) Johnson of Monmouth, IL, Cindy (Ken) Johnson of Macomb, IL, Cathy (Kris) Lescher of Macomb, IL, Steve Johnson of Taylorville, IL, Scott Johnson of East Peoria, IL, Marty (Nancy) Johnson of Tennessee, IL, and Lyn Johnson of Galesburg, IL; his grandchildren Jason Hunter, Nick Hunter, Matt Johnson, Megan Jones, Kevin Johnson, Tracey Mowen, Randy Mowen, Doug Lescher, Brandi Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Dylan Johnson; 13 great grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren, and 8 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Sandy (Bob) Crosier and some very special friends, Rich, Nadine, Tudy, Nancy, Lori, Mo, and Fred.
