Virginia Ruth (Sherrill) Hill

Virginia Ruth Hill, 89, of Galesburg, formerly of Alexis passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 1:20 p.m. at home surrounded by her family.  She was born Sunday, March 10, 1929 in Buffalo, IA the daughter of Carl B. and Katherine A. (Webber) Sherrill.  She married Clarence L. Hill on July 24, 1954 in Rushville, IL, he preceded her in death on February 24, 2006.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Ruth Ann Maloy of Galesburg, Debra (Roger) Smith, of Galva, and Janet Shinall of Peoria; sons, Carl (Pam) Shinall of Jacksonville, and Otis (Amy) Hill of Gilson; 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; one sister Elva Affel of Lake Isabella, CA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Gerri), and her son-in-law (Mike Maloy).

Virginia was born in Buffalo, IA., and raised in Beardstown.  She graduated Beardstown High School.  She worked at the Glove Factory in Beardstown.  She also worked as a substitute cook for the ROVA schools in Oneida.  She lived most of her life as a homemaker, where she enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, baking, fishing and bingo.  She was well-known for her delicious homemade pies. She was a member of the Village Baptist Church in Alexis and loved her church family.

Memorial service will be Saturday, February 9, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Village Baptist Church Alexis, IL with Rev. Todd Dahlgren officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Church.  Cremation rites have been accorded burial will be at a later date.
