Richard C. Moore, 101, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Alexis, passed away on June 20, 2026 after a brief stay at the Seminary Manor Nursing Home in Galesburg, IL. He was born January 20, 1925 in Little York, IL, the 6th son of Clyde and Edna Moore. He was raised and educated in Little York until the family moved to Alexis, where he attended Alexis High School.
He joined the United States Army Air Corps where he served as Military Police. He served overseas in World War II with three of his older brothers, all of whom were able to return home safely. After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Donna Hollenbaek, and they were married for 69 years, until her death in 2016. He worked as a Welder at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years.
Richard was a devoted husband and father, honest, ,hardworking, steadfast, patient and humble, and the perfect role model for his 5 children. His patriotism defined his life, always flying the American flag and attending the Memorial Day Services in Alexis for over 75 years. He painstakingly restored his 100 year old home in Alexis, including replacing the columns of his wrap around porch. There he enjoyed eating ice cream, listening to big band music and waving to the neighbors. He refinished many pieces of antique furniture for his treasured wife. He could fix/repair almost anything. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could always bring a smile to your face. His grandchildren loved going to the park with him because he always let them stay as long as they liked.
He moved to Galesburg when his wife passed away. He enjoyed wonderful health all his life and was able to live in his own home for all of his 101 years, except for the last two weeks of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Jan (Jane) Moore of Jenison,Michigan, Terry (Don) Pheiffer of Wyoming, Illinois, Gale (Trina) Moore of Lake Placid, FL, and Jennifer (Jimmy) Johnson of Tampa, FL. His precious daughter, Joan (Bernie) Whalen preceded him in death in 2024. He was the loving Grandfather of 13 and Great-grandfather of 11. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, including niece Pat Corben of Alexis, IL.
A special thank you to Western Home Healthcare and Beacon of Hope Hospice for their loving care of Richard.
