Nancy Lucille Poling

Nancy Lucille Poling, 98, of Kirkwood, IL passed away Saturday January 30, 2016, 10:00 pm at her home. She was born March 29, 1917 the daughter of Thomas and Roxie (Neal) Stevens. She married Harold Marion Poling on December 22, 1937 in Burlington, IA, he preceded her on July 21, 1994.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son James Poling of Kirkwood, IL, and one brother Jack Stevens of Monmouth, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters (Isabel Stevens, Ozella Stevens, Helen Vaughon, Irma McIntosh, and Maxine Simmonson), and an infant brother (Thomas Stevens)

Lucille was born in Virginia. Her family moved from Virginia to Illinois when she was six or seven years old. Lucille went to the Colombia Country School and graduated from Kirkwood High School. Lucille was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Hospital Auxiliary, PEO, Eastern Stars, the Red Hatters Group, The Senior Citizens Center, The Community Club and the Kirkwood Klippers 4-H Club. She was also a member of the Kirkwood Methodist Church and was known as the "Church Hugger". During the 1950's and 1960's if there was a club around Lucille was a member! Lucille and Harold farmed west of Kirkwood on the Kendall Gibson Farm until the fall of 1977. They also drove a school bus beginning in the late 1960's until the fall of 1977. Harold drove the bus in the morning and Lucille drove in the afternoon, they drove up until two days before moving to Memphis, MO, where they had purchased a farm. They moved back to Illinois in 1987.

Funeral services will be Wednesday February 3, 2016, 10:00 am at the Kirkwood Methodist Church, Kirkwood, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday February 2, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Wise Family ~ Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. There will be a Rebekah service at 5:00 pm. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery Kirkwood, IL. Memorials may be left to the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, Kirkwood Sr. Citizens Center and or the Kirkwood Fire Dept.
