Maria Christina Villarreal

Maria Christina (Guajardo) Villarreal, 68, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away at 5:37 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born January 4, 1957, in Brownsville, Texas, the daughter of Lorenzo and Englantina (Diaz) Guajardo. She was raised and educated in Brownsville and graduated from Brownsville High School in 1975.

Maria married Florentino Villarreal in Brownsville on January 11, 1973, and he preceded her in death in 2018.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother; Englantina Guajardo of San Benito, Texas; children, Florentino Villarreal, Jr. of Brownsville, Rosalinda Badillo of Peoria, Illinois, Englentina (Manuel) Nunez of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Melinda (Aureliano) Vargas of Galesburg, Illinois, Marisol (Armando) Santos of Galesburg; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Javier Guajardo, Ruben Guajardo, Veronica Hernandez, Rosa Ramos, Ricardo Guajardo, Rigoberto Guajardo, Juvencio Garza. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband; son, Reynaldo Villarreal; brothers, Lorenzo Guajardo, Reynaldo Guajardo and Juan Gabriel Diaz; sister, Maria Luisa Guajardo.

Maria was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth, Illinois. She loved to help people whenever she could and she made many friends by doing so. Her hobbies included painting, drawing and crafts. She enjoyed baking with her grandchildren. After her retirement she was a stay-at-home mom for her children and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Raritan. Interment will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Moore Memorial Home for assistance with funeral expenses. Moore Memorial Home, Roseville, is handling the arrangements.
