Lyle L. Kenney

Lyle LaVerne Kenney, 93 of Galesburg passed away Tuesday August 17th 2021, at 11:50 pm at Allure of Lake Storey.

He was born September 12th, 1927 in Alexis, Illinois, the son of Virgil and Hanna (Gallagher) Kenney. He married LaVeta Jane Baker on September 12th 1946 in Alexis, Illinois.

Those left to cherish his memory are three children; Janice (Stan) Taylor of Roseville, Carol (Jim) Brown of Galesburg, and Mark (Teresa Morrison) Kenney of North Henderson, daughter-in-law Mary Kenney of Galesburg, 11 grandchildren, Troy (Angie) Kenney, Jenny (Rick) McCutcheon, John Loveridge, Joshua Moore, Emily (Luke) Raymond, Sarah (Jason) Horner, Markus Kenney, Chris (Kayla) Snow, Nick (Lacy) Snow, Rachel Kenney, and Jesse Kenney. 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Laveta), brothers (Dean Kenney and Leonard Kenney), son (Curtis Kenney) and two grandchildren (Kellie Jean Kenney and Jake Kenney).

Lyle was raised and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1945. He was a farmer, renting 80 acres near Alexis before taking over the 190 acre family farm in 1951. He and LaVeta raised hogs, cattle and sheep and harvested corn and beans before retiring from farming in 1974. Lyle went on to work at Alexander Lumber Company for 11 years, while also doing carpentry work in the Alexis area. They loved camping and visited many of the national parks. Friends and family will remember Lyle as always have a smile on his face. He was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held Friday August 20th 2021, at 11:00 am, at the Alexis Cemetery Alexis, Il. Memorials may be made to the Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Service.
