John M. Holliday, 81, of Casa Grande, Arizona, formerly of Monmouth and Oquawka, died 5:15 A.M. Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Casa Grande, Arizona. He was born June 30, 1932 in Monmouth, the son of Mitchell and Frances Lynn (Boggs) Holliday. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth College and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. John married Margaret Firoved on December 17, 1954 at Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1999. He first owned and operated Holliday and Hoover Memorial Chapel in Monmouth with his brother, William Holliday and Wm C. Hoover until 1965. He then operated funeral homes in Bartonville, Roberts and Paxton, Illinois until retiring in 1993 and moved to Oquawka, living there until moving to Arizona in 2001. He enjoyed playing golf. He was a life long member of the Lions Club and was a Free Mason. Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Frances L. Reinier of Steamboat Springs, CO, two sons, James M. (Traci) Holliday of Bartonville, IL and William B. Holliday of Sibley, IL, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Jon Sims of the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel where his family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
