Esther M. Allen

Esther M. Allen, 97, of Galesburg, IL. formerly of Alexis, IL passed away Tuesday January 16, 2018, 4:36 a.m. at the Genesis Senior Living Center Aledo, IL.  She was born Wednesday February 4, 1920 in Warren County the daughter of James and Nellie (Spain) Brock.  She married Earl L. Allen in Davenport, IA on July 14, 1938, he preceded her on September 17, 1958.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Wesley Allen of Galesburg, IL and Robert Allen (Michiko) Allen of Vacavilla, CA; one daughter Maxine (Louis) Freeman of Keithsburg, IL; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Mary Lou Brock

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers (Kenneth, Charles, David, James, and C.D.), 2 sisters (Doris Linxwiller and Ruth Brown), 1 daughter-in-law (Elaine Allen).

Esther was reared and educated in Warren County Attending Cherry Park School.  She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm.  She also was a cook with the Alexis School Dist. #400 for 20 years, retiring in 1982.  She enjoyed embroidery and watching over the grandchildren.

Esther was a member of the Alexis United Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Women’s Circle.  She was also a member of the Science Hall School Club in Warren County.

Funeral service will be Friday January 19, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church Alexis, IL.  Visitation will be one hour prior from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church Alexis, IL.  Burial will be in the Alexis Cemetery Alexis, IL.  Memorials may be made to Alexis United Presbyterian Church.  Please sign the online guestbook at www.wisefamilyfuneralhome.com.  Wise Family Hoover Hall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
