Ralph Edwin Strickler, 88, of Roseville, passed away February 18, 2016 at the Roseville Rehab and Healthcare Center. He was born on May 29, 1927 in Point Pleasant Township, Warren County Illinois, the son of Ralph O. and Mary (Coghill) Strickler.
His early schooling was at Booth school near his home in Point Pleasant. He attended Roseville High School while also farming with his father. On December 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lois M. Anderson at the home of her parents, near Smithshire, Illinois. In July 1951 he entered the U.S. Army, first being stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas and later at Fr. Still, Oklahoma. He served a year over-seas in the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge he had attained the rank of Sergeant. After the military, he returned to the family farm.
Edwin enjoyed traveling and taking Sunday afternoon drives, but his greatest interest and passion was being "on the farm." He was a member of the Roseville United Methodist Church and the Friendly Mixers couples church group. He had served as a board member of the Warren County Farm Bureau, served as a director of the Warren County Fair Board and also served as a Stockland F.S. Director. His uncle introduced him to flying at a young age, a hobby he pursued throughout his life. He enjoyed his membership in the Monmouth Flying Club for several years.
Surviving are daughter, Kristine (James) Brown of Monmouth and son, Robert (Kim) Strickler of Roseville. Grandchildren, Lauren Eggen, Jon, Sarah and Brianna Strickler, and step-grandchildren, Keith Brown, Michele Brown and Julie Adcock and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sons-David Edwin and Jon Steven Strickler, a grandson-Brian K. Hendel and his two sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 21st at the Roseville Methodist Church from 2:00-4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 22nd at 10:30 am. at the Roseville Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Point Pleasant Cemetery and/or the Roseville United Methodist Church.
