Donnie Lee Pyle, Sr., 72, of Portage, Indiana, passed away at 5:48 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 in Roseville, Illinois. He was born February 20, 1954 in Indiana, the son of Harley E. and France S. (Seifrig) Pyle. He was raised and educated in Gary and Black Oak, Indiana, graduating from Calumet High School.

He married Sandra S. Short in Crown Point, Indiana, on July 16, 1977, and she survives.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Sandy of Portage; son, Donnie Lee Pyle, Jr. of Portage; daughter, Emily Ann Pyle of Roseville; 9 grandchildren, Kadeyn, Coltan, Korynne, Krysta, Ryker, Lily, Maddox, Connor and Jaxsan; siblings, Stanley, Steve, Anna, Roger and Sue.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Gene and Dennis.

Donnie worked for LTV Steel #2 six stand tin mill and United Steel Works USSX as a crane operator for many years.

Donnie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2593, the South Haven American Legion Post #502, the Disabled American Veterans Association, and the VFW. He was also a lifetime member of the MLB Insiders Club. He loved playing pool, car shows, spending time with grand-kids and teaching them how to fish. He loved his cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved football and his Grit shows. He also loved his fur grandbabies.

He showed true value in family, he taught and talked about stocks, getting an education, being a tradesman and being in a union. If you were having a bad day, Don could tell you the truth and reality and he taught that to his siblings, wife, children and grandchildren. Don was a hard worker until the time he went to be with the Lord. He loved Rocky Top, Tennesee, the Chicago Cubs, horse racing, and turkey shoots. He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the quarter slots with his daughter.

A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Black Oaks Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #2593, 7229 W 25th Ave, Gary, Indiana 46406 from open to close. There will also be a memorial benefit motorcycle ride at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
