Donald D Smith, Sr.

Donald D. Smith, Sr., 87, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away on March 5, 2026, at Seminary Manor of Galesburg. He was born December 25, 1938, in Smith’s Ferry, Pennsylvania, the son of Lesley and Ada (Adkins) Smith. He was raised and educated in Smith’s Ferry.

He married Dolly Mae Ice on August 4,1961and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2021.

Survivors include his children; Starlet Joy Smith of Galesburg, Donald “Bub” (Melissa) Smith, of New Windsor, and Clifford M. (Tina) Smith of Chillicothe, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolly; 8 siblings and one great-grandson Austen Gleason.

Don worked for Maytag Manufacturing for more than 25 years. He enjoyed photography, was a boy scout leader and loved to fish, garden and do yard work. Don was a volunteer firefighter for several years and served as fire chief. He attended church services at the Alexis Presbyterian Church and Galesburg Towers.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Moore Memorial Home, Alexis, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Boots and Blessings in Galesburg or Camp Summit in New Windsor.
