Donald H. McBride, 82, formerly of Monmouth, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born May 6, 1931, in Monmouth, the son of Andy and Blanche (Hoover) McBride. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, where he graduated from Willits Grade School and from Monmouth High, where he was elected into the Sports Hall of Fame. After the serving in the Army, he attended Monmouth College. Donald served in the U.S. Army from August 1953 until June 1955. After living in California for twenty year, Don returned to Monmouth and retired from Hill Correction Center as a Food Service Manager. He loved warm weather, and Florida was where he lived the past 17 years. Golf was a real love and he was a general sports enthusiast. He was always known to send jokes to all his friends; his great passion for life was unmatched. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan Buck McBride of Vero Beach, FL, one daughter, Connie McBride of Perry, FL, one son, Buck McBride of Vero Beach, FL and one brother, Jerry McBride of Littleton, CO, along with nieces and nephews. His parents, one sister, Jean Moore and two brothers, Andy McBride and Jack McBride preceded him in death. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Jim Epperson. Interment of ashes will follow in Monmouth Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Memorial may be left for the American Legion Post 136 of Monmouth. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com.
