Dennis Lee McElroy, 76, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on August 19, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 20, 1949, the son of Lester Lee and Marjorie Irene (Lewis) McElroy.

He married Margarete Casteel on December 17, 1977 and she preceded him in death on October 15, 1978. He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Ollie and Orma (Broadwell) McElroy, Willard and Nellie (Jones) Lewis, nephew Ashley McElroy, numerous aunts uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his siblings; Shirley McElroy Phelps of Knoxville, Tennessee, Donnie and Nancy McElroy of Downing Missouri, Karen Carolan of Greentop, Missouri, David “Mo” McElroy of Roseville, Illinois, Robert “Bob” McElroy of Kirksville, Missouri and Kenneth “KW” and Lisa McElroy of Colona, Illinois. One Uncle, Gene McElroy of Excello, Missouri as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was a graduate of Lancaster High School (Schuyler County) in 1966. He attended the University of Missouri, Western Illinois University and Truman University.

He served in the United States Navy and was honored with a National Defense Service Award as well as a Vietnam Service Medal.

He lived most of his adult life in Roseville, Illinois, moving to the Chicago area before settling in Clearwater. He worked with numerous plastic manufacturing companies in quality management before his retirement.

He enjoyed his family time, golfing, working out, gardening, reading, computer tech, riding his Harley and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink.

Per his request cremation rites were accorded and he will be laid to rest next to his late wife and soulmate, Margy. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2025, in the Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Dennis’ name. Moore Memorial Home, Roseville, is handling the arrangements.
