Dean S. Lock

Dean S. Lock, 95, of Avon, IL passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020, 11:44 a.m. in the home he built for his wife and family in 1950.  He was born in Canton, IL., on Monday, October 13, 1924, the son of James Hobart and Ethel Agnes (Gray) Lock.  He married Leitha Faye Hendel, on May 5, 1945 in Avon, IL; she preceded him in death on October 25, 2018 after 73 years of marriage.

He is survived by daughters, Nancy Leighty of Waterbury, CT. and Jane Hood of Kewanee; son, Richard (Cindy) Lock of Avon; grandchildren, Gretchen Vecellio, Lauren Hood, David Hood, Michael Lock, Hanna (Cory) Heimer, Kevin Lock, Matthew Lock; 3 great grandsons, Vincent Vecellio, Colin Heimer and Kyeler Heimer; 1 great-great granddaughter, Adalynn Vecellio; adopted family Ken and Cheryl Kestner.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife, daughter (Jill), 4 brothers (Hobart, Kenneth, Ray, William (infant)).

Dean graduated Avon High School in 1942.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 2, 1944, serving during WWII and was discharged in 1946.  Dean farmed in the Avon Community his entire life, last running the combine at age 90.  He was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church and the Avon Lions Club.  He and his wife enjoyed camping with friends, being a part of the Greenbush Card Club, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Graveside service will be Saturday, September, September 26, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at the Avon Cemetery, Avon, IL.  Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday 26, 2020 at the Wise Family Funeral Home Avon, IL.  Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Avon United Methodist Church and/or the Avon Lions Club.  Please sign the online guestbook at www.wisefamilyfuneralhome.com.  Due to Covid regulations masks will be required.  Wise Family Funeral Home Avon, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
