Charles R. Barry, 72, of Monmouth formerly of Oquawka, Il died at 2:40 P.M. Friday, February 17, 2012 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
He was born Nov. 1, 1939 in Peoria, IL the son of Ernest and Ethel (Bennett) Barry. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending ICS and gradating from Monmouth High School in 1958.
Chuck married Eleanore Peck in Monmouth in 1959. He later married Janice Rice in Monmouth in 1965 and she remained a special friend to this day.
Chuck was a Sergeant with the Monmouth Police Department from 1965-1976 and was the acting Chief of the police when he resigned. He was also the owner and operator of Flamingo Pizza, Charlie "Tuna's" and the Palace all in Monmouth. He later owned the Fisherman's Inn, B & W. Garbage Disposal and the Oquawka Car Wash all in Oquawka, IL. before retiring in 2009.
Chuck was a devoted father and spent his time with his 3 daughters and grandchildren.. He enjoyed his mornings together with his friends at McDonalds. He was the true meaning of the word "Man". He also enjoyed boating, the river and playing cards.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen (Diana) Barry, Michael (Trina) Barry, Janeen (Russell) Hainds and Laura Barry, 4 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 2 great granddaughters all of Monmouth; 2 brothers, Jim Barry and Gary Barry both of Monmouth; sister, Beverly Barry of Monmouth along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Mechelle Barry.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Cremation has been accorded. No other memorial services are planned. Private family burial in Monmouth cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
