Avon

Carl M. Sloan, 68, of Avon, Illinois, passed away  peacefully at 9:36 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, in his home. He was born December 19, 1955 in Charlotte County, Virginia, the son of Nathaniel  and Pansy (Adams) Sloan.  Carl lived a life full of love, laughter and dedication to those around him.

At just a year and a half old, Carl’s family relocated to Avon, where they established a loving home filled with warmth, friendship, and community. He graduated high school in Avon in 1975 and soon started working at the local Texaco gas station. He later worked for Butler Manufacturing Company, where he dedicated 28 ½ years of hard work until his health no longer allowed him to continue. During his time there, Carl formed lifelong friendships that he cherished deeply.

On July 19, 1975, Carl married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Patty K. Anders. Together they built a beautiful life, recently celebrating 49 years of marriage. Carl’s devotion to his family was unparalleled; his greatest joy was spending time with them, sharing stories, playing pitch, and creating lasting memories.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Patty and his loyal dog Smoke of Avon; his mother, Pansy Sloan of Avon; his two sons Trevor (Nikki) Sloan of Avon and Damon Sloan of Avon; two grandchildren, Wyatt (Abby) Sloan of Avon and McKayla Sloan of Avon. He also leaves behind three great-granddaughters; Stevie, Ronnie and Maggie Sloan. Carl is lovingly remembered by his siblings; Eddie (Janet) Sloan of Bushnell, Linda (Mark) Woodring of Avon, Rick (Liz) Sloan of Avon and Teresa (Bob) Rash of Galesburg. He also leaves behind one sister-in-law LeeAnn Robinson of Saint Augustine, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Sloan.

A friend to all who knew him, Carl was the person everyone could count on in a time of need. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched countless lives. Whether he was hunting, fishing, cutting trees with family, or simply enjoying the outdoors. Carl found peace in the beauty of nature and the company of his family.

Carl’s legacy is one of love, friendship, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
