Bonna J. Johnson, 90, of Little York passed away in her home, March 29, 2019 after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born at home August 7, 1928 in Oquawka to Jess C. and Marjorie A. (Smith) Parrish. After graduation from Monmouth High School in 1947 she attended the Morris School of Cosmetology. She then operated Bonna & Becky’s Beauty Shop in her parent’s home with her friend, Becky Miller, prior to her marriage.
February 9, 1950 she married John F. “Fred” Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. They lived and farmed near Little York all their married life. She would tell you the best days are on the farm.
They were blessed with 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed working with flowers, especially roses, refinishing furniture, vacationing in Minnesota, fishing, and taking pictures. She also liked to visit with people.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Greg) Hamberg of Little York and son, Ronald (Jeanine) Johnson of Eldon, MO. She is also survived by her sister, Wynona “Skeeter” Steele of Atkisson and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son (Larry) and grandson (Nickolas), a brother, along with numerous aunts, uncles and a cousin.
Funeral will be Saturday, April 6, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Little Cedar Church, Little York, IL. Rev. David Dutton will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Little York Cemetery, Little York, IL. Memorials can be made to the Little Cedar Church, Little York. Please sign the online guestbook at www.wisefamilyfuneralhome.com.
